Mountain Madness – A Camping Adventure
See Old Faithful, Big Sky Country, Glaciers, and Abundant Wildlife
Day 1, 2 Grand Tetons National Park
The towering Grand Tetons have over 200 miles of trails that will take your breath away. A great way to explore these natural wonders is hike-n-bike. An optional bike ride gets you up close and personal with these giants. Or get acquainted by doing a quick hike. Day 2 is our all-day hike amongst these magnificent peaks. Pack a lunch and get ready for a journey that takes you through varied terrain such as hard pack and rocky terrain, lake views, canyon views, waterfalls, and meadows. Dip into any of the freshwater lakes surrounding the area to cool off, and watch a sunset totally transform the views of the Tetons.
Day 3 Yellowstone National Park
Next up is a timeless classic – Yellowstone. Our nation’s first National Park is one of the ‘Big Three.’ If you want to see sheer masses of wildlife, this is the place. Buffalo and elk are commonly seen, while moose, bear, coyotes, bighorn sheep, and bald eagles are also in the area. We’ll take our time driving through various spots, including Hayden Valley to see the droves of buffalo; the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone where you can see the magnificent Yellowstone Falls; and Mammoth Hot Springs. To top it off is a favorite swim in the hot springs. Soak up a day to remember in this natural jacuzzi created by a cold river merging with overflowing hot springs from the riverbank.
Days 4 & 5 Glacier National Park
You’ll fall in love with Glacier National Park at first sight. Glacier National Park’s star has been on the rise in recent years, with visitors coming in part due to estimations that the huge ice sheets that give the park its name will be gone by 2030. Glacier offers a variety of playgrounds, from old growth forest to lush meadows to picture-perfect glacial lakes. With over 700 miles of trails, this is alpine hiking at its best. Our favorite way to cool down after the hike is by grabbing a huckleberry milkshake and making friends with mountain goats..
Day 6 Montana
Today’s highlight is an adventure sport quite new on the scene- riverboarding. Also called hydrospeeding in Europe or whitewater sledging in New Zealand, it is guaranteed to satisfy your adrenaline craving. Think of whitewater rafting, but without the raft. You are in the river, holding a board much like a kickboard or boogey board. You also have a full wetsuit with helmet, and flippers to aid in propulsion and steering. So now you are eye-level with the rapids. Float on calm river for awhile, crash through a rapid, surf a wave, repeat. We work with riverboarding guides who are the most professional, safest, and best around. If riverboarding doesn’t sound right for you, get in on an exciting whitewater rafting trip.
Day 7 Yellowstone National Park
Now it is time to tackle Yellowstone from the west entrance. No visit is complete without a stop at the most consistent and glorious geyser of the park, Old Faithful. This small area of Yellowstone contains over a quarter of all the world’s active geysers. We will also view the boiling mudpots and other colorful springs and natural phenomena that dot the landscape.
Day 8- Return to Salt Lake City
Our epic journey nears its end as we make way back to Salt Lake City.
