When you are single, sometimes it feels like you will always be single. And the absolute worst part of that is that sometimes it makes you less likely to go out and do the things that you enjoy doing.
A single activity is not something that you have to do on your own. Whether you enjoy skiing and snowboarding, spending time at a museum, running or biking or even traveling, you need to understand that you are not the only single who enjoys the activity.
Once you realize that any activity that you enjoy can be a single activity, you will have an easier time finding someone else – another single – who enjoys the activity as well.
There are a number of ways of meeting another single who enjoys an activity that you no longer want to do on your own. The first is to join a singles' activities group. You can find a group that focuses on one specific activity – such as skiing or running – or you can find a group that provides a variety of options. Some groups plan single activity events that will appeal to different members at different times: skiing and snowboarding in the winter months, sailing schools or kayak adventures in the summer, year round biking or running.
When you meet other singles to do an activity that you know that you enjoy, you will have an easier time relaxing and just being yourself. When you are able to relax and be yourself, others have an easier time getting to know you.
But what if you do not want to join a club in order to take part in a single activity? What happens if you would rather get out there one your own, if you are tired of expecting others to do the introductions for you?
If you do not want to rely on a club, your options for meeting someone else who enjoys the same activities that you do remain wide open. Love skiing? Touch base with a local ski area or even a ski shop and ask some questions: they may be able to introduce you to another single who enjoys skiing and who is looking for someone to ski with.
Similarly, if your passion is riding your bike and you are looking for another single who enjoys the activity, stop in at a local bike shop and ask about putting up a small note card saying that you are looking for another single to enjoy the ride along with you. Prefer mountain biking? Consider doing the same at the mouth of the trail.
While you should make an effort to keep yourself safe, if there is an activity that you truly enjoy, there are other singles who enjoy the same activities. The trick is to not allow yourself to be discouraged. The goal is to be comfortable being yourself.
After all, you wouldn't want to give up an activity that you enjoyed while you were single just because you were in a relationship, would you? So why not, rather than looking for someone new in your life at a party or through a speed dating service, look for someone else who is single and who enjoys the same activities that you do?
When it comes time to meet someone who enjoys the same things you do, it does not have to seem impossible. Just keep in mind that you are not the only single who enjoys the activity. Keep in mind that any activity is a way of meeting someone new. And when you form a relationship based on a single activity, you'll know that you share at least that common interest – who knows what else you might share.
