Costa Cruises Terms & Conditions

01. Terms & Conditions
Please read this general information about your cruise and the related conditions. You need to be aware of them before you book your Costa cruises vacation. Your decision to purchase, and payment of the deposit for the cruise program you select, constitutes your recognition and acceptance of all of the terms and conditions in this brochure, as well as those in the contract printed on the passage tickets and vouchers issued for the cruise program (collectively the “Passage Ticket Contract”). A copy of the Passage Ticket Contract will be provided to you on request. Your acceptance, and the acceptance of those traveling with you, of passage tickets and vouchers means that you agree to and are bound by all of the terms and conditions of the Passage Ticket Contract. Throughout these terms and conditions, Costa Cruise Lines N.V. is referred to as “CCL” and Costa Crociere S.p.A. is referred to as “Costa Crociere.” CCL acts only as a sales and marketing agent for Costa Crociere for the purpose of booking travel arrangements on Costa vessels. Costa Crociere operates the vessels on which you will be sailing

02. Embarkation
Embarkation begins 3 hours prior to sailing time. Guests must be onboard no later than one hour before the scheduled sailing time. It is the guest’s responsibility to arrive on time.

03. Reservations:
Reservations for non-web bookings
Mediterranean and North Europe:
Deposit required: $400 per person
Final payment - Due 70 days prior to sailing. CCL accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card and American Express final payment for your cruise vacation.
Deposit required: 7-night cruises $250 per person
Final payment - Due 70 days prior to sailing.
Deposits and final payment may be made with credit cards, upon approval only.
South America:
Deposits required: $250 per person. Final Payment: Due no later than 70 days prior to sailing. CCL accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card and American Express as final payment for your cruise vacation.
Reservations for web bookings
For all bookings made online via Costa’s website full payment is due via credit card at the time of reservation. CCL accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express as payment for you cruise.

04. Cancellations
Cancellations and requests for refund must be submitted in writing to CCL. All documents (deposit receipt or passage tickets) issued by CCL must be returned before refund can be processed. Cancellation charges, per person will be assessed as follows:
70 or more days prior to sailing: Full Refund less a $100 administration fee
69 - 30 days prior to sailing: Deposit amount*
29 - 8 days prior to sailing: 40 percent of cruise fare/air add-on/hotel
7 days or less prior sailing: No refund (100 percent cancellation charge).
There will be no refunds for guests who fail to embark.
*A change of a booking from Air/Sea to cruise only constitutes a cancellation of the air portion of the package and is subject to the cancellation penalties as indicated above. A $50.00 Caribbean/$100 Europe charge will apply for air cancellations made between 69 to 30 days prior to sailing.
A $70 administrative fee will be charged for changes to bookings after cruise documents have been issued. Cancellation and administrative charges apply to both individual and group bookings.
The above charges do not include cancellation fees which may be applied by air carriers, hotels and/or other land service suppliers, and will be assessed in accordance with such suppliers’ policies or as detailed in the Air/Sea group addendum.
No exceptions will be made on cancellation charges, so we recommend that guests secure appropriate cancellation insurance through CCL or Paragon Travel. Costa Crociere reserves the right to change or abandon all or any part of the cruise program and to change the itinerary whenever advisable or necessary, in which case Costa Crociere shall not be responsible for any loss or expense caused thereby. If the cruise is withdrawn before sailing date, you shall only be entitled a refund of the amount received by CCL from you. CCL shall not make any refund to guests who elect not to complete the cruise for any reason or cause whatsoever. Costa Crociere and CCL are not liable for weather or sea conditions.

05. Rates/Expenses/Taxes and Charges
Unless otherwise noted, rates are in U.S. dollars, per person, based on double occupancy of accommodations selected. Rates include ocean transportation, accommodations and all standard meals onboard ship. Rates do not include any other items, such as airfare, additional airline fuel charges, passenger facility charges, transfers, gratuities, shore excursions, wines, liquor and beverages, laundry or valet service, or any other goods or services purchased onboard the ship.
Rates also do not include taxes and fees imposed by governmental or quasi-governmental authorities, such as fees levied for embarkation, disembarkation or landing, arrival or departure taxes, security surcharges, passenger facility charges, and customs and immigration fees. At the time of publication these charges range from $8.51 to $25.73 depending on sailing. The amount of the taxes and charges specified herein are subject to change. CCL will add such taxes and charges to the cruise fare.

0606. Travel Documents:  Valid Passport is required
     You are responsible for obtaining all travel documents as well as compliance with Customs and Immigration requirements.

     You  will be required to comply with all government imposed security measures, which may change without notice.

     Please check current visa requirements with the appropriate embassies or consulates.

Please note all guests traveling on itineraries that call in Libya will be required to purchase a VISA available onboard the ship. Due to Libyan government restrictions no Israeli citizens will be permitted to enter Libya or sail on this itinerary. Any guest with an Israeli stamp in their passport, regardless of their citizenship, must have their passport reissued by their country of citizenship in order to visit Libya.

For guests on itineraries visiting Russia and Ukraine, who wish to tour independently in these countries (not on a Costa organized shore excursion) will need to obtain a VISA from the respective embassy/consulate prior to travel.

Caribbean Cruises:
All guests must have valid passports (expiring not less than 6 months from the scheduled return date) and all necessary visas. U.S. and Canadian citizens have been permitted to travel on Caribbean cruises with certified copies of their birth certificates and photo identification instead of passports, but this may change so that ALL GUESTS (INCLUDING U.S. AND CANADIAN CITIZENS) MUST HAVE A VALID PASSPORT FOR SAILINGS TO OR FROM THE US AFTER JANUARY 1, 2008. Please visit the U.S. State Dept. website at for more information. Because of the new requirements, guests are encouraged to obtain passports as soon as possible to avoid backlogs.
Naturalized US citizens are advised to carry their naturalization papers. Aliens who are permanent residents of the US must carry their alien registration card and passport. Please check current VISA requirements with your travel agent.
You are responsible for obtaining all necessary travel documents and for complying with Customs and Immigration requirements. Guest with out proper travel documents will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be given to any guest failing to bring such documentation.

South America Cruises:
United States citizens must carry a valid passport and a visa for entrance into Brazil. Non-U.S. citizens must carry a valid passport and appropriate visas. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months after date of travel. All guests should contact the appropriate embassy or consulate to confirm their individual requirements for entry. Guests without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and will be subject to full cancellation penalty.

Transatlantic Cruises:
United States and Canadian citizens must have valid passports. Aliens who are permanent resident of the U.S. must carry their Alien Registration Card and passport. All others must have valid passports and necessary visas. Guests without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and will be subject to full cancellation penalty.

07. Security
Costa Crociere has implemented strict security procedures in the cruise terminals and onboard the vessels. These measures include screening all guests and their personal property prior to boarding. For the safety and security of guests, Costa Crociere complies with established international and national security laws, regulations and guidelines. We appreciate your cooperation in this very important matter.

For air travel, luggage may be limited by carrier as to the number and size of pieces allowed per guest. Check with your airline for specific restrictions. There are porters at the airport and the pier, but hand luggage, valuables, medications and breakable items must be hand-carried by the guest. Costa Crociere and CCL are not responsible for any personal items or for any luggage not under Costa Crociere’s direct care.
Costa Crociere and CCL are not liable for damage, loss or theft of luggage or personal effects. Claims for luggage loss or damage must be made in writing to the Director of Administration or Pier Manager prior to leaving the disembarkation pier. Costa Crociere’s liability for such claims is limited by the terms of the Passage Ticket Contract.

09. Services Onboard Ship
Independent third party concessionaires operate certain services onboard the cruise ship, including shops, photography, gaming, salons, etc. Costa Crociere may receive compensation from such third parties. Costa Crociere and CCL are not responsible for the actions of these independent concessionaires arising from your dealings with them. You must contact and deal with them directly.
An infirmary, staffed by a physician and nurse, is available during certain hours. The physician may make customary charges for treating guests. All Costa ships can be reached by phone while at sea. The caller will be charged for the actual conversation time after the ship responds. In addition, ship-to-shore telephone service is available at additional cost 24 hours per day from your stateroom while the ship is at sea or in port.
Valuables and personal funds should be placed in the safe at the Guest Relations Desk, or in the safe deposit box provided in most staterooms. It is recommended that guests carry Traveler’s Checks and U.S. currency in small denominations. No personal checks will be cashed onboard ship. Most major credit cards are accepted. Costa ships work on a cashless system. Costa Crociere provides a Guest Cruise Card that lets you charge almost anything onboard. Restaurant table reservations will be noted at time of booking but can only be confirmed onboard by the Maitre d’. Voltage in staterooms is 220V/110V.

10. Minors Policy
Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. On selected seasonal departures, guests 21 to 24 years old must have one person at least 25 years old in the same stateroom.

11. Physical/Mental/Medical Disability:
Guests who have a physical or mental disability or any medical condition are encouraged to call CCL’s Special Needs telephone number at 1-800-GO-COSTA ext. 5009. Guests that may require medical treatment or special accommodations during the cruise must report same to CCL IN WRITING AT THE TIME RESERVATION IS MADE. This information will be forwarded by CCL to the ship’s doctor for review. Failure to provide such information prior to sailing may require Costa Crociere to cancel your reservation, assessing any applicable cancellation penalties if sufficient time is not provided to make an adequate assessment of the medical condition or any special accommodations or other requirements necessitated by such disability or condition.Costa Crociere reserves the right to revoke or refuse passage to anyone who may, in the sole judgment of the ship’s doctor, require treatment, care or accommodations beyond that which the ship’s facilities can reasonably or readily provide, or whose mental or physical condition may make them unsuitable for or incapable of a cruise voyage due to the limited facilities onboard, or who may create an unreasonable risk of injury or harm themselves or others.
Costa Crociere and its authorized representatives shall assume no responsibility whatsoever, nor shall they be liable, for any consequence arising from the failure of the guest and/or the travel agent to provide such information. By accepting a guest with a physical or mental condition or disability, Costa Crociere assumes no liability for such guest beyond that assumed for any other guest as provided in this brochure and in the Passage Ticket Contract. All guests are subject to all the limitations and terms and conditions set forth in the Passage Ticket Contract.

12. Shore Excursions, Land Packages and Other Arrangements
Shore excursions will be announced in advance onboard the ship and are offered for your enjoyment at a moderate extra cost. Each tour in the various ports is operated by independent third party local tourist service companies. If they wish, guests may make their own arrangements for shore excursions.
Although arranged through Costa Crociere or CCL, the following are not under the control of Costa Crociere or CCL: shore excursions, land packages, tours, hotel stays, car rentals, sightseeing excursions, dive programs, shore-side restaurants, transportation by air, rail, bus or other means, and any other service provided by a third party. Costa Crociere and CCL make such arrangements only as a convenience to the guest and, in so doing, are acting as agent for you or your travel agent. Costa Crociere and/or CCL may receive compensation for arranging such services. Costa Crociere and CCL expressly disclaim any responsibility for personal injury, death, property damage, loss, delay, inconvenience or other matters due to negligence, wrongful acts, errors or omissions on the part of any such third party, or any supplier of services or goods or of agents selected by you or your travel agent.

13. Airline terms, conditions and liability.
Air Add-ons: include roundtrip airfare (economy class) to/from gateway cities, to/from Genoa, Milan or Nice International Airports and airport transfers including 2 pieces of luggage per person. Flight deviations or independent flight arrangements will result in the loss of transfer privileges. Unaccompanied minors cannot be accommodated. Additional surcharge may apply on selected dates. Different air add-on rates may apply to groups and back-to-back cruises.
Airlines: CCL reserves the right to use any approved air carrier including commuter and charter carriers from each gateway city. Flight schedules and routings may require stops, change(s) of planes, and/or layover (overnight). In limited cases, air schedules cannot be finalized earlier than 30 days prior to departure. In some cases air schedules will be available approximately 2 to 3 weeks prior to departure. Due to availability for peak travel dates, non-prime air schedules, charters and overnights may be assigned.Group air space is subject to restrictions and is limited from certain gateway cities. CCL may not be able to accommodate flights for groups or guests traveling with other guests on the same flight itinerary.
CCL reserves the right to withdraw any gateway city from sale and/or charge an additional supplement for air transportation. Airline tickets issued by CCL are highly restrictive and usually cannot be reissued, exchanged or refunded for another carrier or routing.
Seat Assignment or Special Requests: CCL cannot confirm seat assignment requests, special requests for meals or other special services. Your travel agent may assist with these arrangements including adding frequent flyer mileage credit information to your airline booking record. Some airlines and charter flights may not offer advance seating selection, which must be done at the airport at time of check-in.
Airline Liability, Hotel and Ticketing: CCL does not control or supervise any airline and cannot be responsible for any event beyond its control. Even if the tickets were issued by CCL, CCL assumes no liability for any acts or omissions of any airline, including without limitation those involving cancellation of flights, schedule changes, re-routings, damage to or delay or loss of baggage, flight delays, equipment failures, accidents, pilot or other staff shortages, overbooking or computer errors, strike, warlike acts, labor unrest, acts of god or any other act. The liabilities and obligations of the airline to you, and your rights as an airline guest, are subject to any and all terms and conditions of the airline's ticket and tariffs.
If due to any cause beyond our control we are unable to arrange the mandatory overnight hotel accommodations or air travel (including, for example, capacity controls placed upon us by airlines/hotels due to types of fares under which we book) or the overnight hotel accommodations and/or air travel arranged by CCL is unavailable or otherwise fails to materialize, CCL’s sole liability shall be limited to refunding the air add-on or hotel package amount paid to CCL.
Once tickets are issued, any additional costs resulting from changes are at the guest’s expense. Any cancellation penalties imposed by the carrier will be deducted from the refund. Once documents have been issued, an administration fee per person will be charged for the following: name changes, gateway changes, addition or deletion of Pre/Post Hotel Programs, as well as any change from cruise-only to Air/Sea or vice versa. In addition, any charges incurred by the airline and/or hotel will be charged to the guest(s). Refer to Terms & Conditions for Costa’s cancellation penalties. All original airline tickets must be returned to CCL prior to a replacement ticket being issued. If a replacement airline ticket is issued before the original ticket is returned, payment is expected for the second set of airline tickets. In the event the original airline ticket is not returned, CCL will file a Lost Ticket Application with the respective airline. The airline’s applicable lost ticket application fee will apply, per ticket. Any outstanding refund will be reduced by this fee.
Air Taxes, Charges & Fees: Air add-ons do not include government taxes and fees imposed or sanctioned by the U.S. or other governments. These charges are in addition to the airfare and may include without limitation to passenger/airport facility charges, airport security fees, security surcharges, fuel surcharges, international arrival or departure taxes, customs user fees, immigration fees, agricultural inspection fees and/or new taxes or charges which may be enacted after this brochure was published. CCL will inform you of any applicable charges and taxes at the time of booking. The actual charges reflected on your airline ticket might be different than the amounts charged; refunds will not be made. Subject to change.
Overnight Accommodations Provided: Due to airline schedules, post-cruise overnight hotel accommodations may be required for Air/Sea guests. The hotel accommodations, transfers between pier/hotel and hotel/airport and gratuities are included for Air/Sea guests. Mandatory hotel accommodations provided are at CCL’s sole discretion. Complimentary hotel accommodations and transfers cannot be combined with any hotel program or air deviation.
Air Deviations: Guests requesting special air deviations into or out of their (dis)embarkation port will be specially handled through CCL’s Deviation Desk. Travel agents must submit inquiries by facsimile to CCL at (954) 266-5817 at least 70 days prior to sailing. Subject to availability, CCL’s Deviation Desk will assist with specific airline selections, earlier or later flights, date changes or airline class of service upgrades. The Deviation Desk will be pleased to handle requests for guests, under deposit (whose air schedule has not been assigned or ticketed), for a non-refundable processing fee of $75.00 per guest, per request. Guest(s) must pay for any additional airline charges resulting from the change. Air deviations may result in loss of transfers and mandatory overnight hotel.

14.Hotel conditions
Rates are per person, per night and include hotel tax and baggage transfers. Availability of packages is limited. Certain restrictions apply. CCL reserves the right to substitute hotels of similar class without notice. Air/Sea guests purchasing any post package will forfeit the mandatory overnight if required at the end of their cruise. Packages are available immediately before or after the cruise. Only one pre and post cruise package may be purchased in conjunction with a cruise. Maximum hotel occupancy is 3 per room. If due to any cause beyond CCL’s control we are unable to arrange hotel accommodations, or the hotel arrangements made by CCL are unavailable or otherwise fail to materialize, CCL’s sole liability will be limited to refunding the hotel package price paid. Subject to change without notice.

15.Additional Limitations of Liability
The Passage Ticket Contract contains further limitations of liability. In the event of any conflict between these terms and conditions and those contained in the Passage Ticket Contract, the Passage Ticket Contract will control. Under the terms and conditions of the Passage Ticket Contract, the liability of Costa Crociere, CCL and other parties to guests is limited for personal injury, death, damage to or theft of luggage or personal property, delay, and other events whether occurring onboard the cruise ship or elsewhere. In addition, your right to recover in a legal proceeding will be based upon the applicable law and forum stated in the Passage Ticket Contract.

Schedules, fares and rates, onboard amenities, ports of call, land and flight arrangements and rates are all subject to change without notice. You may be required to pay any changes in cost resulting from these items before embarking on the vessel or be denied passage. Once again, we call your attention to the fact that the tickets and vouchers issued for this cruise program will contain further limitations of liability. You should request and read them in advance. If you have any questions about them, ask Paragon Travel.

In addition to the above terms and conditions the following terms and conditions shall apply:

You   are advised to purchase travel insurance to cover trip cancellation, out of province or country medical emergencies, accidents etc. and to read the terms and conditions of all insurance policies in advance. Passengers are responsible for meeting and determining customs and immigration requirements for all countries to be visited. Check your tickets and documents immediately upon receipt, call us immediately if there are any discrepancies. We do not assume responsibility for matters beyond our control ( credit card currency conversion rates, overbooking by carriers/hotels/car rental companies/tour operators etc. flight cancellations, schedule changes, weather, war acts of god etc. Terms and conditions of travel are also subject to the travel providers terms and conditions as published in their various brochures, contract documents and or cruise and airline regulations. Liability may be limited by international agreements. Until reservations are ticketed, fares are subject to availability and change without notice.  Professional, administrative and service fees are charged when applicable. Cancellation and refund fees are charged in addition to those charged by the travel provider. Payment is due on receipt of invoice. Outstanding invoices are subject to administrative fees and 2% interest per month or part there of.  E&OE

In the event of a dispute arising between the client and Paragon Travel Agency Ltd. It shall be resolved according to the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada.
