First Date Tips: The Worst Things You Can Do

What are the worst things you can do on a first date? These tips below aren’t things you should do, their tips for things not to do on a first date. Perhaps you’ll recognize some of them from bad dates you’ve had in the past. I hope this doesn’t spark any bad memories for you.

Showing up late – Who needs that? One of the worst things that can happen to you on a date is being stood up, and when you have to sit there for twenty minutes you feel as though that’s what’s happening. So, don’t put someone in that position, it makes them feel embarrassed and quite small.

Forgetting your wallet – Hello? Really? If you ask someone out, then you should be prepared to pay. If you are asked out, you should be prepared to at least cover your share. Frankly, next time someone forgets their wallet when they’re out with me, I think I’m going to forget mine too. There, let’s see how they like that.

Drinking too much – If you need a drink or two to loosen up, whatever. A lot of people do. If you have more drinks than you can handle, however, you wind up making a fool of yourself, and potentially end up needing to be babysat.

Eating too much – Here’s a first date tip to remember: Don’t stuff your face. Give yourself some breathing room for conversation. You don’t want to look like you’re the type to gorge all that often, and you don’t want to focus on the food more than your date. If this is a situation where your date will likely be paying, eating too much will also likely end up costing too much, and that makes things even worse.

Talking about old relationships – No one on a first date wants to hear about your old love. You either come across as heartbroken and therefore not fit for a new relationship, or a jerk who has nothing good to say about a person. You can’t win. Keep it to yourself.
