5 Tips for Going to Singles Events

Jul 18, 2010 No Comments »

Singles events are great for meeting people. They give you a chance to interact with new people while having a fun time dancing, hiking or playing a sport. If you are going to go to your first singles event though, there are some things you should keep in mind, and some advice you may want to take.

1. Bring a friend

If you’re going to a singles event, especially for the first time, bring a friend for support. That is, if you aren’t the type of person who can spark conversation with strangers all that easily, bring a friend to keep you from stressing out about the possibility of being alone. You’ll quickly discover that at a well run singles event, this won’t be an issue, but keeping that load off your mind will surely help.

2. Arrive early

Not really early, but early. The real key is not to arrive late. Many people figure that arriving fashionably late to singles events is the right thing to do, much like other social events. This isn’t the case though, as a lot of the connections are made earlier on while waiting for things to get going. From there, the event will start with ice breakers that help you get to know each other.

3. Socialize smart

Singles events are organized gatherings, but you should still be sensible when it comes to your own safety. You’ll want to stay in touch with some people after the event, but just like online dating you should be careful who you give personal information to. An email or IM address is one of the best ways of keeping in touch while maintaining that buffer. Then when all is well, you can move forward from there.

4. Be your friendly self

The best way to meet people in any situation is by being friendly and open. At singles events this is no different. Keep that smile glowing and keep conversations inviting to all, and you’ll find that you can easily become the magnet of interest, and leave the day with a lot of connections with great people.

5. Remember first impressions

First impressions are important on first dates, and they are equally important at these types of events. Therefore, remember to be positive, dress in a way that makes you feel your best, and avoid talking about negative things. This will help people recognize you as the great person you want them to see.
