5 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Singles Events

Jul 18, 2010 Comments

Singles events come in all shapes and sizes, and they can be a great way of not only meeting people, but simply getting you away from your regular routine. Whether it’s an adventure dating event like water tubing or a singles party at a local club, it’s important that you make the most of things. That’s not just so you get your money’s worth, but so you can get the most out of it possible for your own sake.

1. Talk to people

This may seem obvious, but it needs to be said. If you show up to a singles event, you should put yourself out there and say hi and start conversations. This is the whole point, after all. If you feel shy about that sort of thing, then prepare for the event the same way you’d prepare for a date, by doing things like coming up with conversation starters.

2. Participate

Whatever the event, you are there for two reasons. One is to meet people, and the other is to have a good time. So rev yourself up to try new things and really get involved. Not only will this be good for you as a person, but it will be good in that it makes you stand out and someone worth getting to know.

3. Pick events that speak to you

The nice thing about some singles events is they give you a chance to try new things. That said, not every event will necessarily be your cup of tea. When choosing an event to go to, start with the ones that make you instantly think “That’ll be fun!” Remember, that’s the whole point.

4. Be happy, look happy

First impressions say a lot, and the first impression at a singles’ event comes when you walk in the door. You should therefore present yourself in a fun and inviting manner, whether it be through the way you dress or the way you smile. And yes, smile. Those things open are great for opening the door to conversations.

5. See people again

If you meet fun people at a singles event, saying goodbye won’t do you any good. Instead, try “Speak with you soon,” as you give out your email or phone number. Ask for theirs. Take the initiative in any way you can to keep things going even after the event is done, so that you can make these more lasting connections.

If you’ve been to singles events before, some of these tips will surely speak to you. You may even have a thing or two to add. Well, now’s the time! Share your thoughts and opinions on these tips by adding comments below.
