This popular, busy tour combines the Peruvian Amazon with magical Machu Picchu, and takes you to the vast, blue waters of Lake Titicaca before culminating in La Paz, the highest capital city in the world.
ITINERARY
Day 1 to 3
Arrive Lima - Puerto Maldonado - Amazon Jungle
Free time to explore the old city, visit the museums and whet your appetite for the rest of Peru. Flying to Pto Maldanado we are transported by bus and motorised canoe to our jungle lodge with in the mighty Amazon rain forest. Along with our guide we will have the opportunity during our visit to experience this magical place with walks into the jungle to discover many species of plants and wildlife. It is not uncommon during our jungle experience to see many species of monkey, Caiman, Tarantula spiders, many different and unusual bird species and if we are lucky the rare giant otter.
Day 4 to 5
Cuzco
Today we take a short flight to Cuzco, the lively Andean capital of the Inca Empire some 500 years ago. Free day to make the most of your included visitor ticket gaining you access to most sites, churches and museums in the city. There are also many options in the area to pursue.
Day 6 to 9
Inca Trail (or free time) - Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes - Cuzco
An early drive to the start of the Inca Trail. Our porters rush ahead to set up tonight’s camp and prepare a feast for our first night under canvas. There are three high passes to traverse and plenty of Inca steps and spectacular views to keep mind and body occupied. Inca fortresses abound along the way and look out for orchids, frogs, condors and humming birds that frequent the area. An early torch light trek is necessary to reach the famous Sungate by dawn for the sight of legendary Machu Picchu. You will have a guided tour of the site before free time to wander at will. The train back to Cuzco leaves from the small mountain town of Aguas Calientes in the afternoon.
Day 10 to 12
Sillustani Ruins - Lake Titicaca - Puno - Uros, Amantaní & Taquile Islands
A long drive across the Altiplano to the ancient ruins of Sillustani. Lake Titicaca sparkles in the background as we reach Puno. The pace slows for two days as we head onto the lake to visit the floating reed islands of the Uros people. We then head to Amantaní Island for a short, sharp climb to the village where we stay the night with local Indian families. We leave Amantaní and visit Taquile island where the men knit while the women tend the fields. Another scenic cruise back to Puno for the night.
Day 13 to 14
Puno - Juliaca - Lima
A short drive to Juliaca airport for the flight to Lima. There is a free afternoon at your leisure in the old city. Day 14, Depart Lima

· Accommodation: 7 nights in hotels, 2 nights jungle lodge, 3 nights camping on the Inca Trail, 1 night with local Indians (very basic)
· Meals: Some lunches, all meals on the Inca Trail, Amazon Jungle & Amantaní Island

· Spending money – allow US$25-30 per day to cover meals, snacks, drinks, limited souvenirs, laundry and any extras (see the relevant Country Dossier for advice on how to carry your funds).

THE INCA TRAIL TREK
(or free time)
This tour allows time to complete the famous Inca Trail. If trail permits are not available, you have the option of taking the alternative 3 night Lares Trek which also culminates with a visit to Machu Picchu. If you choose not to complete either trek, a discount will be taken from your tour cost (see price box) and a train trip to Machu Picchu, staying overnight in Aguas Calientes, is included instead. If choosing the Inca Trail or Lares Trek, your first choice MUST be decided on at the time of booking (see page 14 for details of all options and page 95 for booking requirements).

The driver and/or tour director has the right to eject any disruptive person who is abusive, poses a safety threat to other passengers, or any person who engages in the use of illegal substance. The act of signing up for this event makes the individual solely responsible for his/her safety while on the tour, at the completion of the tour and at all venues throughout this tour.
