Charity Work at the Old Brewery Mission

First of all, I’d like to thank all of our wonderful, fabulous, generous and giving volunteers today. You truly are the oil that keep the wheels of this great world running smoothly and you were greatly appreciated not only by Derek, myself and the O.B.M., but also by all of the hungry mouths you helped feed. You all deserve a gold star for merit!

For those of you who have never volunteered before, it truly is a beautifully unique, rewarding and humbling experience. I highly recommend it.

We started the evening by walking together to the Old Brewery Mission under the falling snow, and arrived to see people already standing by the doors waiting patiently to be let in for dinner. We then removed our jackets, walked to the kitchen donning aprons and gloves and immediately got to work. In three rounds, team work and one fumble, we managed to serve coffee, meals and dessert to 336 hungry mouths… each one of them thankful. The precise organization of the Mission is incredible and every task was accomplished within the blink of an eye. Hats off to the permanent staff for doing this (and sooo much more) 365 days a year - 7 days a week.

That being said, the Mission operates mainly on donations from the likes of you and I. Should anyone have blankets, socks, clothing or anything worth donating, they are sorely needed, not only now that winter is setting in, but every day of the year.
