Treetop / Hike in Rigaud

What an absolutely wonderful day! (Saturday, July 26th, 2008)

Derek and I started out fretting about whether we should cancel the event or not seeing as we seemed to be in for some adverse weather (bah-humbug!). Good thing we didn’t! We wound up having a beautiful (and dry!) breezy day filled with adventure!

Congratulations to Maggie who worked hard at conquering her fear of heights. She managed to get it under control at the Rigaud’lo and finish the entire course! Another congrats goes out to Zoran, who despite being incredibly exhausted (and muttering quite audibly) managed to complete the entire Tabarouette course and finally join us for supper! Hats off to Salim who realized in a split second that the treetop trekking wasn’t for him and ran off (harness and everything) to join the hike instead. I don’t think Superman himself could’ve gotten out of those trees any faster!

Despite the physical work, the occasional blunders and a bumped leg, the event was incredibly successful and a good time was had by all. I almost had to pull Jamal off the Tarzan rope by force a bit after 6! We’ve had so many wonderful people join the organization and so it always makes for lots of interesting conversation and socializing.

The evening ended with a cozy bonfire on the site where everyone had marshmallows, drinks and munchies. Eric and his associates at Arbraska Park also spoiled us rotten by offering us free coffee and beaver tails just before our departure. Entirely unplanned and unexpected! A HUGE thank you to Arbraska Park for making our visit there a very memorable one!
