Join Meet Market Adventures and other adventurous singles on this day of treasure hunting. We'll be given an introduction to Geocaching which is treasure hunting with a GPS system. We'll spend the afternoon looking for treasure, and end the day with a BBQ, and a ride in 9-person canoes.

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to hide and seek containers (called “geocaches or “caches”) anywhere in the world. The co-ordinates are given to find the treasure. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and “treasure”, usually toys or trinkets of little value. Today, well over 480,000 geocaches are registered on various websites devoted to the sport. Geocaches are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world.

We’re not going to travel the world, but this adventure will give you a taste of what the sport is all about. Our adventure will be at Oak Hammock Marsh, where 15 goecaches are hidden. Some will be easy to find, and some will take a bit of trekking in the forest.

We’ll be given a talk and instructions on geocaching, and then we’ll split up into groups and be let loose on the property. We'll then have a simple BBQ, and relax with the new friends we’ve made. We’ll then see who the best “Treasure Hunters” of the group were. To end the day, we'll add another adventures when we head out on the marsh in a 9-person canoe with a guide along to do the steering.

Oak Hammock Marsh is one of North America’s birding hotspots. This 36 km Wildlife Management Area features a restored prairie marsh, aspen-oak bluff, waterfowl lure crops, artesian springs, and some of Manitoba’s last remaining patches of tall-grass prairie and 30 kms of trails to explore. Oak Hammock Marsh is home to 25 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, numerous amphibians, reptiles, and fish. During Migration season, the number of waterfowl using the marsh during migration can exceed 400,000 daily. The award winning Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre is located on the edge of the marsh.

Any damage to the interior or exterior of equipment or venue which is caused by the individual signing up for this tour, is liable for the cost to repair any such damage as well as any cost for loss of the carriers service due to such damage. The driver and/or tour director has the right to eject any disruptive person who is abusive, poses a safety threat to other passengers, or any person who engages in the use of illegal substance. The act of signing up for this event makes the individual solely responsible for his/her safety while on the tour, at the completion of the tour and at all venues throughout this tour. In consideration of the right to participate in this event, the individual hereby assumes all risks, and will hold the owners operators, employees and agent of Meet Market Adventures Incorporated harmless from any and all liability, actions, debts, claims and demands of every kind and nature whatsoever. The terms hereof shall serve as a release and assumption of risk for my heirs, executors, and administrators for all members of my family including any friends accompanying me. The act of signing up for this event agrees that the individual, if intoxicated, will not operate a motorized vehicle after leaving the tour. The act of signing up for this event relieves Meet Market Adventures Incorporated, their employees, directors, vendors and contractors from any liability and responsibility for any claims for injuries, loss, damage, liability criminal or civil litigation for the individual arising out or relating to a tour.
